Basic Standards and Calibrations

liquid scintillation systems
The liquid scintillation systems are used for the measurement of alpha- and beta-particle emitting radionuclides. Much ongoing work is being performed to characterize them for metrological use. The CIEMAT/NIST method is one of the two basic methods for determining the detection efficiency of liquid scintillation systems. Four source ampoules in a container are shown in the foreground.
